Miracle Mornings

In Uncategorized by Ken

Sometime early last year I read a book called miracle mornings by Hal Elrod. It changed my life when I realized how the little things that kick-start your day, have a major impact on your life.

Something as small as making your bed, gives you that little feeling of achievement that trickles into the rest of your day, and can either set you up for success or leave you feeling like a frantic mess sometimes.

I started to implement routines into my morning, that made me feel prepared for the day and gave me a sense of lightness. I felt ready to face the day no matter what was thrown my way - and believe me, as a teacher, you get a lot of things thrown at you...

Here are a few of the miracle morning routines, that have really shifted my mornings from miserable to magnificent!

One of the important things I have heard over and over, but never quite listened to, was putting away devices before bed, to guarantee a better and more restful sleep. This day in age that sounds crazy, but once you do it, you’ll be thankful you did. A restful sleep is the key ingredient to a miracle morning

Don't do it! Don't hit that snooze button! I have realized the only way to accomplish this was to relocate my alarm clock across the room! However, now that I have, i can feel the difference in my body immediately upon rising. When you hit snooze over and over, you actually get a little groggier every time. Jump up, turn it off, and wash your face! The sooner you shake off the cobwebs, the sooner your day starts and the more time you have to slow down your mornings so that they don't overwhelm!

When I wake up, i follow the SAME set of routines. Every. Single. Day.

I scrape my tongue, brush my teeth, wash my face, put on my lotion and toner, take my vitamins, chug a glass of water and make my morning juice! Every. single. Day.

Why? Mindful habits make your morning a little more manageable. When you remove the thinking from your morning - stressing about what you still need to do before leaving the house, what will you wear - this creates a place of stress. When you know exactly what you need to do, you don’t have to think so much. I even pick out my clothing the night before so I don’t have to think about that either.

Everybody gets in the zone for sports, who says you shouldn't get in the zone, for life! We all find our inner zone in a different way, some people sit and have a coffee in silence, some read, some exercise for even 15-20 minutes, and some meditate. To each their own, but find a zone, and make it a part of your mornings - non-negotiable. When you take a little time just for yourself, you start your morning off with a sense of peace and inner calm, that gives you the motivation and patience you need to cope with your day! Everybody can identify here...if you've ever run out the door after waking up late, or been frantically leaving your house, you realize very quickly that it sets a stressful tone for the rest of your day. Get proactive, and create space in your morning.

I have found that posting my routine, made all the difference and gave me something to follow until it became a more natural habit. There is no rule for what order YOUR morning will take - you have to do what feels right for you, but i challenge you to try some of these suggestions out! I have posted my own miracle morning routine below if you need a starting point!
